This craft requires the use of very sharp scissors and cutting the shells is not recommended for children. If an adult prepares the shells, children certainly can paint and decorate them. Patience and the ability to work with fragile objects is about the most difficult aspect of creating a beautiful, decorated egg.
Things you will need:
- eggs of course!
- a small pair of sharp scissors
- acrylic paints
- brushes
- trim material
- cotton
- any non toxic glue such as elmers
- imagination!
Any size or color egg will do, just be sure to wash the eggs with mild soap and water before you begin cutting. You can save up shells for months at a time and work on them in batches. To insure a long lasting creation, once you remove the egg insides, rinse them thoroughly, then gently peel the membrane from the inside of the eggs. If you leave the membrane it will eventually dry out and peel causing the painted inside to flake off and ruin your design.
